In the past decade the internet has trampled over the ubiquitous music player and left it struggling for survival. Very few people these days buy music cds as music is readily available on the internet. However, these music collections on the internet need to be downloaded to be listened to. The radio on the other hand is an ever ready continuous stream of music that does not require any downloading or planning or managing by the listener. It is an unending flow of live music where the listener just needs to relax and listen without putting in any sort of effort. Yet, with changing times people feel the need to do away with the physical instrument and just get virtual access to the radio’s music. And necessity being the mother of invention, this requirement soon led to the advent of Internet Radio.

The internet which already use for a variety of other purposes can play the radio also for us thus eliminating additional running cost. The Internet Radio is hugely popular among youngsters, who are already net savvy and do not wish to clutter their lives with additional equipment.
An internet radio can be accompanied with photos, graphics, text and links. There can also be chat rooms and message boards which is not possible in a traditional radio.
The reason for its popularity among older people is that they are from the era in which the radio was the biggest and only source of economical entertainment. They have sentiments attached to radio listening, which they want to keep alive. When this feature is combined with the added advantage of ease an economy through the internet then it becomes highly appealing to the older generation too. In short, the Internet Radio has won the hearts of the young and old alike and is here to stay.
